HDOT update on the precast panel work for the H-1 Freeway rehabilitation from Waimalu to Halawa
Posted on Jun 29, 2018 in Latest Department NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) updates the public on the rehabilitation work on the H-1 Freeway from Waimalu to Halawa for the Shoulder Work and Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation project.
Construction has installed 654 of 1,279 precast panel pieces on the H-1 Freeway between Waimalu and Halawa as of June 2018. Other improvements include widening of the eastbound H-1 Freeway shoulder between the Waimalu Viaduct and the Aiea offramp, highway lighting replacements, drainage systems upgrade and safety upgrades to the shoulder lane. These improvements will restore areas of the H-1 Freeway to a smooth safe driving surface and upgrade our infrastructure for a sustainable future.
To increase productivity and assure quality of the final driving surface, HDOT was granted an amendment to the Noise Variance permit allowing one saw machine to work in each area past midnight until 4 a.m. Acoustical engineers will monitor noise levels and adjust buffers as needed to confirm that levels reach no higher than ambient. Night work will continue to be scheduled to avoid impact on the traveling public.
Phase 1 of the rehabilitation project remains on schedule to be completed by Fall 2018 and Phase 2 is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2020, weather permitting. To follow the progress of this project, please view the website at https://h1waimalu.com/construction-updates/. Updates on the progress of the panel installations will be updated weekly.
