HI-EMA NEWS RELEASE: Siren testing on Oahu – October 11, 2016

HONOLULU — Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (Hawaii EMA), together with the City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management will conduct siren testing at the following locations and times.

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 (9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)

  • Waipahu Town Center, Leoku Street

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 (1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.)

  • Kuulei Cliffs Park, Diamond Head

These new sirens are part of the Statewide Siren Modernization Project. Residents nearby may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-second to one-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, emergency management officials and technicians will check that installation work on this siren has been completed properly.

Hawaii EMA encourages the public to make use of other supplemental methods of warning including, but not limited to, the City & County of Honolulu’s mass text notification system, Nixle, and NOAA Weather Radio.
