Kamehameha Highway will be closed at the Karsten Thot Bridge for maintenance work on Saturday, May 19

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) informs Oahu motorists that Kamehameha Highway will be closed in both directions between Kilani Avenue and Whitmore Avenue on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., for tree trimming and maintenance work at the Karsten Thot Bridge.
Construction will be using heavy machinery and bucket trucks to remove multiple large trees along the slope and to clear the drains on the north side of Kamehameha Highway. The trees are being removed to prevent damage to the nearby roadway, retaining wall, and chain link fence. Paving crews will also be patching depressions on Kamehameha Highway and doing shoulder repairs.
During closure hours, motorists will be detoured to Wilikina Drive as the alternate route. HDOT advises motorists to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations and check traffic apps like GoAkamai.org before getting on the road.
Electronic message boards will be posted to inform motorists of the closure and detour routes. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the closure. Roadwork is weather permitting.
