News release from DLNR – NEW LOADING DOCK AT KAUNAKAKAI SMALL BOAT HARBOR UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Posted on Nov 1, 2018 in Latest Department News

KAUNAKAKAI, MOLOKAI —  A project at Kaunakakai Small Boat Harbor is underway to remove an existing wooden loading dock and replace it with a new aluminum framed loading dock with plastic lumber fenders and fiber reinforced plastic decking.  Work is scheduled to be completed by November 15, 2018

The width of the loading dock will be increased from 3 ft. to 5 ft. for ADA compliance.  The finished elevation of the dock will also be raised approximately 7 inches, to account for king tides and sea level rise.  The existing light pole and light at the boat ramp will also be replaced with a new solar-powered light with LED lamp.

Project contractor is Sea Engineering, Inc. and cost is $340,980.

The boat ramp was closed today, November 1, 2018 to allow for concrete work at the loading dock approach and installation of the new loading dock via barge.  Notices will be posted if any other boat ramp closures are required.

Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation held a meeting on October 9, 2018 to inform harbor uses of the upcoming project and boat ramp closures.  Notices were also posted around the harbor to inform the public.
