News release from DLNR – TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PU‘U WA‘AWA‘A FOREST RESERVE HUNT

Posted on Aug 3, 2018 in Latest Department News

(Hilo) – The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife announces the temporary closure of the public archery hunt in the youth and disabled area and makai section of the Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a Forest Reserve.

This is being done as a safety precaution due to the active wildland fire in and around the Pu‘u Anahulu game management area.

The fire has burned over 10,000 acres since Wednesday, and several road closures remain in effect. The hunt will remain closed until the fire is contained, and safe public access to the hunting area is restored.
