HONOLULU – Gov. David Ige joined the Hawai‘i Housing Finance & Development Corporation (HHFDC) to break ground for Nohona Hale – an affordable rental and the state’s first micro-unit building in the state.

“These units are smaller – 300 square feet – and it’s right on the transit line. This is exactly the kind of project that we need along the rail route,” said Gov. Ige.
“This project advances our commitment to creating more affordable housing and more walkable, livable communities at prices that our families can afford.”

The $27 million project is being built on state land — a 9,660 square-foot parcel at 630 Cooke Street. It will include a 14-story tower, 110 rental units and 1 manager’s unit, and will remain affordable for 65 years.

The Bronx Pro Group, Swinnerton Builders and EAH Housing and partnering to construct and manage the project.

“This is another great example of what public-private partnerships can do as we create new and innovative ways to build more affordable homes and rentals for our families across the state,” Gov. Ige said.

Proposed rents for qualifying individuals range from $500 to $995 a month.

The estimated completion date is January 2020.
