OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR — News Release — Pali Highway declared a disaster area following landslides

HONOLULU – Lt. Gov. Josh Green, acting on behalf of Gov. David Ige, today issued an emergency proclamation that provides relief for disaster damage and losses in the wake of the Pali Highway landslides.

The proclamation authorizes the expenditure of state monies as appropriated for the quick and efficient relief of extensive damage to the slopes along the Pali Highway, including landslides that covered the roadway.

The emergency proclamation also gives the governor certain powers that allow him to expedite emergency management functions which also include protecting the health, safety and welfare of Hawai‘i’s residents and visitors.

The disaster emergency relief period begins immediately and continues through April 22, 2019.

Gov. Ige is currently in Washington, D.C. attending the National Governors Association Winter Meeting. Lt. Gov. Josh Green is serving as acting governor.
