PSD NEWS RELEASE: Missing Waiawa Correctional Facility inmate returned to custody

HONOLULU – Waiawa Correctional Facility inmate Kurt Lopes is back in custody.  Honolulu Police arrested Lopes and brought him to the Oahu Community Correctional Center at 11:30 a.m. He will be transferred to Halawa Correctional Facility.

On Thursday, September 29, Lopes was reported missing from a headcount at about 9 p.m. How he escaped is under investigation.

30 year-old Lopes is classified as a minimum custody. He is serving time for Burglary 1 and Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle.  He now faces an Escape 1 charge.  His next parole hearing was scheduled for May 2017.

Waiawa Correctional Facility consists of dorm-style housing for minimum custody, sentenced male inmates.  All inmates participate in education or substance abuse treatment programs.
