TAX PRESS RELEASE: Oahu Businessman Pled Guilty To Tax Violations

Honolulu – Today, Donn Tanaka, President of East West Associates, Inc. pled guilty to one count of tax violations.  East West Associates, Inc. additionally pled guilty to two counts of tax violations.

Donn Tanaka and East West Associates, Inc. were both charged on June 26, 2018 in Circuit Court with each violating 3 counts of wilful failure to pay over withholding taxes for tax years 2013 – 2015.

Tanaka faces imprisonment of not more than five years, or probation and a fine of not more than $100,000 per felony count if convicted of wilful failure to collect and pay over tax in violation of Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 231-36.4. East West Associates Inc. faces a fine of not more than $500,000 if convicted.

This investigation was coordinated by the Criminal Investigation Section, Department of Taxation and the Hawaii Department of Attorney General.
