A DHS lifeline in the pandemic: Raising awareness of SNAP
Posted on Nov 25, 2020 in Capitol Connection, FeaturedSNAP is food. SNAP is love. SNAP is ‘ohana.” That message is at the heart of a community outreach campaign with the state Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Hawai‘i Community Foundation to build awareness of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Their goal is to reach people who may need support but aren’t sure how to apply or are reluctant to seek help through the program.
DHS says there is an unprecedented 50 percent increase in SNAP applications, compared to the same time last year. Nearly 180,00 people in Hawai‘i already receive SNAP assistance. To learn more about eligibility, go to www.snapbenefits.hawaii.gov.
